PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the issuance of a special visa for foreigners who want to temporarily stay in the country while working remotely using digital technologies.
Marcos signed Executive Order 86, which allows the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to issue Digital Nomad Visas (DNV) in a bid to promote the country’s economy and tourism.
Among the requirements for DNV issuance are as follows:
Must be at least 18 years of age;
Must show proof of remote work using digital technology;
Must show proof of sufficient income which is generated outside the Philippines;
Must show proof of no criminal record;
Must have health insurance valid for the period of the DNV;
Must be a national of a country that offers DNVs to Filipinos and where the Philippines has a Foreign Service Post (FSP);
Must not pose threat to the internal or external security of the Philippines;
Must not be employed in the Philippines.
Grantees must comply with these requirements while staying in the country with DNV.
Foreigners who are issued valid DNVs may enter and/or stay in the Philippines for a maximum period of one year and they may renew their visas for the same duration, and may be granted multiple entry privileges during the validity of their visas. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
