A FILIPINO crew member went missing following a collision between a chemical tanker and a container ship off the northeast coast of England, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said Thursday, March 13, 2025.

In a statement, the DMW said the collision between the MV Solong and the oil tanker Stena Immaculate occurred on the morning of March 10 (UK time) in the Humber Estuary, Hull.

“The (missing) seaman was last seen at the bow of the vessel, the area of the ship that caught on fire after the massive explosion,” the DMW said.

Eight other Filipino crew members of MV Solong were safely rescued and presently accommodated in a hotel in Grimsby, London as they await repatriation.

Investigation as to the cause of the fire is still ongoing.

“The LMA (licensed manning agency) has personally informed the family of the missing seafarer about the situation and has committed to providing them with daily updates,” the DMW said.

“The DMW is in close coordination with the LMA and the families of the affected seafarers to ensure that all necessary assistance and support are being provided during this difficult time,” it added. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
