THE Philippine National Police (PNP) urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading false information following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a statement, the PNP reiterated its commitment to assisting in lawful processes while maintaining peace and order across the country and to fulfil its role in upholding its duty to enforce the law with professionalism and adherence to due process.
“The PNP strongly cautions against the spread of fake news and advises the public to rely only on official government sources for accurate information,” it said.
On Monday, March 10, 2025, PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said the PNP is not in possession of arrest warrant against Duterte, neither from the local nor international court.
She said the PNP is also still then not yet in coordination with the International Criminal Police Organization Manila (Interpol) for Duterte’s possible arrest.
However, on Tuesday morning, March 11,2025, PNP Chief General Rommel Marbil and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Major General Nicolas Torre supervised security measures at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 for the provision of assistance to the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC) for the implementation of an Interpol Notice for Duterte upon his arrival from Hong Kong.
The PNP said it deployed 379 personnel at NAIA and other key locations to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.
From the airport, Duterte was brought to the VIP lounge of the Villamor Airbase.
Torre read the Miranda Rights to Duterte, who along with his lawyers, asked for the legal basis of his detention. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
