AS POLITICAL activities begin to intensify across the Philippines with only six days left before the 2025 national and local elections (NLE), Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Marbil reminded all police personnel to remain politically neutral and to focus on their primary duty on maintaining peace and order.

In a statement, Marbil reiterated the core mission of the PNP during elections, which is to ensure public safety and maintain political neutrality in order to protect democracy and not to serve personal political interests.

He made the statement also amid growing concerns from the public over alleged instances of partisanship among some uniformed personnel.

Marbil said any police officer found engaging in partisan political activities will face swift administrative and disciplinary action, which may include dismissal from the service.

“Let me be clear: the PNP will not tolerate any form of political partisanship within its ranks. The uniform we wear represents public service -- not any political campaign or candidacy,” he said.

“Our communities rely on us to make sure their voices are heard in a safe and secure environment. That is our solemn duty,” he added.

The top cop also called on all unit commanders and regional directors to actively monitor their personnel and report any indication of political involvement.

“Our accountability as officers does not end with deployment. We are expected to uphold the non-partisan mandate of the PNP at all times,” he said.

“Our integrity as an institution depends on our collective ability to remain above politics. We must never allow personal or class ties to compromise our impartiality,” he added.

Marbil assured the public that it will remain a steadfast guardian of democracy, committed to delivering a peaceful, orderly, and honest electoral process. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
