THE Philippine National Police–Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) is investigating a deepfake video of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. promoting an online trading platform.

In an interview with reporters, PNP-ACG director Brigadier General Bernard Yang said they are already coordinating with social media platform Facebook to take down the malicious video while preserving its digital footprint as evidence for case filing.

“For sure, makukuha naman natin who’s behind that video. Sa ngayon, hinihintay lang namin ‘yong result from the social media platform,” Yang said.

(For sure, we will be able to identify who’s behind the video. For now, we’re just waiting for the results from the social media platform.)

Yang said the PNP-ACG was able to trace some individuals behind previous deepfake videos targeting other high-profile personalities, including businessmen.

He said the altered videos were usually used in various scams.

“We received several complaints victimizing high-profile individuals at marami tayong mga ginagawa rito, ongoing ang investigations. ‘Yong isa, we are already in the process of applying for a cyber warrant,” Yang said.

“Kaya lang, hindi natin talaga muna isinasapubliko dahil tuloy-tuloy po ‘yong aming ginagawang case buildup so that we can file the case against these persons,” he added.

(However, we’re not disclosing details to the public yet because our case buildup is still ongoing, so that we can file charges against these individuals.) (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
