A POLICEWOMAN has opted not to press charges against Honeylet Avanceña, who caused her injuries by striking her with a cellphone during a commotion that occurred amid the arrest of the former president.

In a phone interview, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said not pursuing any complaints against Avanceña, Duterte’s common-law wife, is the cop’s personal decision.

“Personal decision po ng pulis na wag nang magsampa ng kaso at ang reason niya ay kasama yon sa hazard ng kanyang trabaho, kaya okay lang at magpapagaling lang daw siya at back to work na siya,” Fajardo said.

(It is the police officer's personal decision not to file a case, and her reason is that it is part of the hazards of her job, so it's okay, and she said she will just recover and then return to work.)

“Siya naman po ay pinagpahinga, ‘yung kanyang gamot ay sinagot ng PNP at bibigyan natin siya ng kaukulang commendation dahil sa ginawa niyang pagtupad ng kanyang tungkilin po,” she added.

(She was given rest, and the PNP covered her medication. We will also give her the appropriate commendation for fulfilling her duty.)

The policewoman sustained a huge lump on her forehead following the hitting incident during a commotion that ensued amid the arrest of Duterte.

Duterte, who is facing an ICC investigation into the killings of over 6,000 alleged drug personalities during the implementation of his drug war from 2011 to 2019, was arrested on Tuesday, March 11, upon his arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 from Hong Kong.

He is currently held at The Hague Penitentiary Institution or the Scheveningen Prison in the Netherlands.

Duterte is set to appear before the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber on Friday, March 14. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
