INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla assured on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, that there will be no preferential treatment for detained expelled congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr.
In a statement, Remulla said Teves is now back in his detention at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City after undergoing an appendectomy.
“Teves was cleared for discharge by the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and is, therefore, fit for incarceration,” Teves said.
“The former congressman shall not be
afforded any preferential treatment while inside the jail facility, and will be treated in the same manner as any other person deprived of liberty (PDL),” he added.
Remulla assured the safety of Teves and all PDLs in their custody.
Teves is facing charges of murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and violations of the Terrorist Financing Prevention and Suppression Act.
He was identified as the alleged mastermind in the killing of former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo in March 2023, as well as several other personalities in the province since 2019.
Teves was arrested in Dili City, Timor-Leste, where he had attempted to apply for asylum. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
