THE Department of Education (DepEd) reminded schools that engaging in electioneering or partisan political activities, especially ahead of the May 2025 elections, is prohibited during graduation and moving-up ceremonies.
The agency issued Department Memorandum 27, Series of 2025, reiterating that all DepEd officials, teaching and non-teaching personnel, are not allowed to take part in political activities in a bid to promote professionalism and non-partisan.
Teachers serve as election officers, facilitating the polls.
Under the same memorandum, the DepEd also reminded that graduation and moving-up ceremonies should be simple yet meaningful and must be conducted without excessive spending, extravagant attire, or extraordinary venues.
It noted that expenses related to such activities shall be charged to the school’s maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE), reiterating that collecting any kind of contribution or fee is prohibited.
Schools are also reminded to consider holding ceremonies at indoor venues as well as the time it will be held due to extreme heat. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
