AUTHORITIES arrested a Chinese national wanted for the murder of his fellow national in Makati City in October 2024.

In a press conference, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Nicolas Torre III said Wang Dan Yu, also known as Bao Long, 28, was arrested by police intelligence operatives off the waters of Barangay Nalil in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025.

Torre said the suspect was able to leave the country and was on his way back when intercepted by the police.

“The PNP have ways to monitor people and to control the situation kaya nakita natin, namonitor natin ang kanyang mga plano hanggang sa nalaman natin na siya ay babalik kaya hindi na natin siya pinagbigyan na makagalaw pa ng malaya dito sa bansa natin. Inaresto na natin siya pagtapak niya sa Philippine soil,” he said.

(The PNP has ways to monitor people and control the situation, which is why we were able to track and monitor his plans until we learned that he would be returning. That’s why we didn’t allow him to move freely anymore in our country. We arrested him the moment he set foot on Philippine soil.)

Police Brigadier General Jaysen De Guzman, Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) director, said the suspect was arrested onboard a speedboat bound for Bongao.

“The suspect was successfully intercepted onboard a speedboat bound for Bongao. He was immediately brought to Bongao Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition,” De Guzman said.

He said the law enforcement operation was executed under Special Intelligence Project “Long Extract,” which was approved on July 14 by Torre.

He added that the arrest of Wang was the result of a joint effort by the Batangas Police Provincial Office as the lead unit, in close coordination with the National Security Council and the Transnational Crimes Office, with the operational support from local police units in Tawi-Tawi.

“This operation is a clear demonstration of what we can achieve through unified efforts,” De Guzman said as he commended the excellent coordination and swift action of all units involved.

On October 17, 2024, Wang shot dead a fellow Chinese national, Liu Jiabin, following a verbal altercation in a restaurant in Makati City.

The incident was caught on closed circuit television (CCTV) camera and has gone viral.

The Philippine government has offered a P2 million bounty in exchange for any information for Wang’s arrest.

Wang was also tagged as the brains behind the kidnapping of a 14-year-old Chinese student at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig in February.

He was also allegedly involved in the kidnap-for-ransom of a Chinese acupuncturist in Manila in August 2022.

Torre said the charges filed against Wang over the kidnapping incidents were dismissed after the victims refused to cooperate.

“Sa ngayon sa kabila ng nakalusot si Bao Long sa mga iba’t-ibang kasong hinarap niya nung una, ngayon nasa atin na ulit siya at talagang gagawin natin lahat para hindi na makalabas ang taong ito,” he said.

(As of now, even though Bao Long was able to evade the various cases he previously faced, he is now back in our custody, and we will do everything to make sure this person can no longer get away.)

“Again gusto nating ipagdiinan, hindi ligtas ang Pilipinas para sa mga criminal na nagtatago rito o gumagawa ng krimen at tatakas papunta sa ibang bansa. Hindi tayo magpapabaya at hindi natin kinukunsinti ang mga sindikatong ito na nambibiktima ng mga banyaga at nagsasagawa dito man o sa ibang bansa,” he added.

(Again, we want to emphasize that the Philippines is not a safe haven for criminals who are hiding here or committing crimes and then fleeing to other countries. We will not be negligent, and we do not tolerate these syndicates that victimize foreigners and operate either here or abroad.) (TPM/With SunStar Zamboanga/SunStar Philippines)
