AUTHORITIES have arrested the brother of former Presidential Economic Adviser Michael Yang, Tony Yang, over falsification of public documents, perjury, and violation of the law on the use of aliases.

In a report, the Pasay City Police said Yang, also known as Jianxin Yang or Antonio Lim, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, in Pasay City.

The arrest was based on a warrant issued by the Cagayan de Oro City courts for falsification of public documents, perjury, and violation of the law on the use of aliases.

The recommended bail was set at P36,000 for falsification of public documents, P18,000 for perjury, and P30,000 for violation of the law on the use of aliases.

On September 19, 2024, Yang was intercepted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 for immigration violations.

During his appearance at the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality’s inquiry into the raided illegal Pogo hub in Bamban, Tarlac, Yang admitted that he is a Chinese national and has a falsified birth certificate issued by the Philippine government.

Yang said he was born in China and came to the Philippines in 1998 or 1999 when he was around 26 years old. His birth was only registered in the Philippines in 2004.

He said his grandfather obtained the Philippine birth certificate for him to make it more convenient to do business in the country.

On his driver’s license, Yang is also identified as Antonio Lim.

He said he only holds a Chinese passport.

Using the name Antonio Maestrado Lim, Yang reportedly set up at least 12 companies across Cebu, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro, including malls, rice mills, and a steel plant.

Yang’s methods mirrored those of Guo Hua Ping, also known as Alice Guo, the former mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, who was likewise linked to falsified or questionable civil documents. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
