THE "Cradle of Christianity in Asia" is set to have a new shepherd in Tagbilaran Bishop Alberto Uy.

This after Pope Leo XIV appointed Uy as the new archbishop of Cebu.

"Uy will succeed Archbishop Jose Palma, whose resignation was accepted by the Pope," said the report by CBCP News.

Uy is set to become the fifth archbishop of Cebu.

On the other hand, Palma has filed his mandatory resignation after turning 75 years old last March 19.

Cebu is home to about 4.7 million Catholics in more than 170 parishes.

As of 2023, the Archdiocese of Cebu has 375 diocesan clergy and 278 religious priests. (Anton Banal/SunStar Philippines)
