NEWLY appointed Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy is set to be installed in the morning of September 30, the Archdiocese of Cebu said.
In a social media post, the Cebu archdiocese disclosed the schedule of the installation of the successor of Archbishop Jose Palma.
"With hearts full of joy, we announce to you all that, on September 30, 2025, Tuesday, at 9 a.m., His Excellency, Most Reverend Alberto Sy Uy, will be canonically installed as the 25th Bishop and the 5th Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu," said the Cebu archdiocese.
The archdiocese called on all the Cebuano faithful to join in the welcoming of their new shepherd.
"Let us unite in prayer and thanksgiving as we welcome our new shepherd on this special day, and celebrate this historic moment for our local Church," said the Archdiocese.
Before Uy, the Archdiocese of Cebu was led by Archbishops Gabriel Reyes, Julio Cardinal Rosales, Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, and Palma.
Until his installation date, Uy said he remains committed to serving the faithful of the Diocese of Tagbilaran.
In a report by CBCP News, Uy told his flock that he will remain in the Diocese until he is called to transfer to Cebu.
“For now, I remain here, serving you in the Diocese of Tagbilaran,” Uy told the churchgoers on Sunday.
He also promised to always visit his birthplace of Bohol despite already being assigned in Cebu.
“We will still see each other again,” Uy said.
Uy was appointed by Pope Leo XIV as the next archbishop of Cebu after the retirement of Palma was approved. (Anton Banal/SunStar Philippines)
