THE families of the victims in the fatal multi-vehicle crash in Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) filed on Friday, May 23, 2025, a P130 million worth civil case against the Solid North bus company.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon personally accompanied the family of spouses Jonjon and Daina Janica Alinas in filing a civil case against the Solid North Incorporated, its president and the bus driver before the Quezon City Hall of Justice.

"P50 milyong danyos ang hinihingi ng pamilya para sa pagkamatay ng mga

biktima, pati na para sa loss of income at moral and exemplary damages," the DOTr said in a statement.

(The family is demanding P50 million in damages for the victims' deaths, including compensation for loss of income and moral and exemplary damages.)

The couple and their two-year-old son were on their way to Baguio City for a vacation when the incident happened.

Their baby boy survived the incident.

Eight others, who were passengers of a van, which the Solid North bus hit first before subsequently crashing through the Alinas’ vehicle, perished.

Their families also filed a civil case against the bus company before an Antipolo City court. They are seeking P80 million in damages.

The driver of the bus tested negative for illegal drug use but he admitted earlier that he fell asleep while driving, resulting in the fatal incident.

The DOTr earlier placed the bus company under a 30-day preventive suspension. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
