Charges mulled vs man who set vendor on fire

Published on

CHARGES are being readied against a man who poured gasoline on a vendor Tuesday at the public market on Tan Lorenzo Street, Barangay 1 in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said Ryan Dolar, 20, of Barangay Camugao will either face serious physical injuries or frustrated murder charges.

Dolar poured gasoline on the back of Clarencio Bernabe, 21, of Barangay Inapoy while the latter was cooking chicken in his stall. Bernabe’s back caught fire and Dolar was also injured.

Santos said Dolar and Bernabe don’t know each other, but bystanders claimed that Dolar had been seen wandering at the public market.

Dolar is reportedly suffering from a mental illness, but police have yet to confirm it, she added.

The filing of charges will be based on the medical examination results of Bernabe, who sustained third degree burns.

Both are confined at the hospital and Dolar is being guarded by the police.
