COLLEAGUES and friends mourned the death of Bacoleña artist Nunistell Mae Fulo Lee, who was killed by a robber at her house in Barangay Granada on Wednesday.
Lee, a painter, was a member of Art Association Bacolod, and a performing artist at Artistika group. She was once a member of the famed Bayanihan Dance Company.
The 41-year-old artist was also a mother to an eight-year-old girl.
Philip Ian Salvador and Rica Barba posted on Lee’s Facebook page, seeking justice for her death.
Myra Trillanes Grijaldo and Sotero Montelibano also expressed sadness over Lee’s passing.
Many of her Facebook friends remembered Lee as a humble and very talented person.
AAB president Rodney Martinez said in a statement that they lost a very multi-talented member.
Martinez said Lee’s death is a great loss to the art community as she was at her peak of practicing her art as a visual artist and in performing arts.
“We will miss you, and you will be remembered,” he added.
Also, the Bayanihan Alumni family mourned the untimely death of Lee.
In a statement, they said that they are saddened not just of the news of her sudden demise, but more of the circumstances of her death.
“We are, at the same time angry, that in spite of this administration's strong campaign against criminality, Lee falls into one of those which we can call senseless. Glad to know the suspect is now in PNP's custody and that her mother and daughter are safe,” they added.
In a separate statement, Joan Honoridez, president of the Association of Negros Artists, said: “The art community has tragically lost a great and beautiful artist.”
“In behalf of the Association of Negros Artists as well as artist friends in Negros, all over the Philippines and overseas, we are in great shock and indignation as we are bereaved of the untimely demise of Nunistelle Fulo,” Honoridez said.
She said that Fulo has made her distinct mark not only in the field of visual arts, but also as an accomplished folk dancer.
Honoridez added that “more security through peace education and the arts is needed so that we could be safe in our own homes.”
“We strongly condemn the killing of our dear friend and comrade in arts. Let justice be served,” she added.
Lee was stabbed to death by robber Sandy Sevilla, 37, a native of Escalante City. Her househelp Mary Grace Mupada was injured.
Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, head of Police Station 5, said Sevilla was charged with murder and frustrated murder before the City Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday. (GYM/TDE)
