ONE person was killed, while eight others were hurt, in a series of accidents in different parts of Cordillera Administrative Region.
A farmer died in Apayao province, while three others were injured, after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) allegedly rammed in a sidewalk along the national highway in Quirino, Luna.
Authorities identified the fatality as Melecio Cariaga Sr., 83, farmer and a resident of Quirino, Luna, Apayao, while the injured were Marlon Macasaddu Samudio, 36, driver, a resident of Barangay Camasi, PeƱablanca, Cagayan, lawyer Luis Tumamao Donato, Jr., 40, and a resident of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, and Rocenito Tumanao Soriano, 53, bodyguard, a resident of Andangan, Solana, Cagayan.
Initial police investigation showed that the SUV driven by Samudio was traversing the road going to junction Luna in Abulug, Cagayan, when he attempted to overtake a tricycle.
After failing to overtake, the driver was forced to bring back the vehicle to its original lane but lost control of the steering wheel and eventually ramming into the victim, who was on the side of the road that inflicted serious injuries on his head and body.
The victim was rushed to the Apayao-Cagayan Medical Center in Abulug, Cagayan but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
The case is still undergoing further investigation.
In Benguet, an elf truck fell into a five meter deep ravine in Sitio Palew, Caponga, Tublay around 3 a.m., Monday, August 28.
According to a police report, Cristian Pay-ong Rodriguez, 20, a resident of Tawang, La Trinidad, was driving the vehicle together with his three minor companions when he suddenly dozed off while traversing Halsema Highway.
The three minors including the driver sustained minor injuries in the different parts of their bodies and was brought to Benguet General Hospital for medical treatment.
In Ifugao, a utility vehicle and a motorcycle collided in Lamut, Ifugao Monday evening.
Police said around 7:40 p.m., the utility vehicle driven by Renz Leo Millano Bautista, 20, a resident of Poblacion East, Lamut bumped a motorcycle driven by Jairish Sison Yarcia, 20, construction worker and a resident of Bakir, Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya.
Investigation said the motorcycle was traversing the national highway towards Nueva Vizcaya from Poblacion, Lamut, Ifugao, when it bumped into the utility vehicle in the opposite direction.
The utility vehicle incurred damages on its right rim tire and scratches on its right door while the front portion of the motorcycle was damaged.
