1 killed after SUV rams Marcos Highway sidewalk

A MAN was killed early Wednesday morning after he was allegedly hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) that rammed into a side walk along the east bound of Marcos Highway in Pasig City.

Police Officer 2 Apollo Labrador said based on the claim of Arjay Tua, the driver of the Ford Ranger that was caught in the accident, he lost control of the vehicle after trying to avoid a jeepney that cut into his path.

This resulted for him to crash into the sidewalk where commuters were waiting for a ride.

The SUV also went through the Pasig traffic Parking Management Office outpost in the area.

Labrador identified the fatality as Marcelo Julian from Marikina City.

According to Bong Rellano, Julian’s co-worker, they agreed to meet in the said place before proceeding to their work in Rizal province.

Labrador said they are yet to validate if Tua was the one who killed Julian considering his claim that he did not hit any person upon crashing.

However, he said Tua will undergo medical test to identify if he was intoxicated during the incident after he admitted that he came from a birthday party.

Labrador said they will initially be filing charges of reckless driving resulting to damage to property against Tua but additional cases will be filed once it is proven that he drove under the influence of alcohol and that he hit Julian.

He said they will also conduct pursuit operations against the jeepney driver who immediately escaped after the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
