10 injured as truck plunges to a spillway

TEN people were injured when the truck they were riding plunged into a spillway in a remote village in Zamboanga del Norte, a police official disclosed on Thursday, August 3.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (Western Mindanao) information officer, said the accident occurred around 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, in the village of Upper Gumay, Piñan, Zamboanga Del Norte.

Injured were the following: Norma Rendoque, 56, Evangiline Paalisbo, 53, Edorio Martina, 57, Alona Pluma Salazar, 40, Carlita Bolongon, 63, Rosita Bation, 68, Anecita Montac, 60, Analiza Patangan, 41, Mendencia Pacante, 57, and Marino Lara Silagan, 49.

Investigation disclosed the victims were injured when the truck they were riding plunged into the spillway after its driver, Silano Rendora, lost control of the steering wheel while traveling from the village of Poblacion to Teresita, Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Galvez said the victims were taken to the hospital while Rendora escaped and went into hiding after the incident.

Galvez said a manhunt was launched to arrest Rendora while appropriate charges are set to be filed against him. (SunStar Philippines)
