10 teams in Bacolod Open Tchoukball Championships

TEN teams across Bacolod City will compete for the men and women’s divisions for this year’s Bacolod Open Tchoukball Championships this Saturday at Bacolod Tay Tung High School gym.

Raymund Jamelo, president of Tchoukball Association of the Philippines (TAP) and chief of Southeast Asia Tchoukball Federation, will lead today’s opening rites.

John Jamelo of the Tchouckball Association of Negros said among the teams seeing action are Ikthus, MFBC, the Christian Academy of Bacolod, Shiloh, Sum-ag and the University of St. La Salle Junior and Senior teams for the men’s division while USLS, CAB and MFBC will compete for the distaff side.

Jamelo said that this event, which the championship matches are set next week, will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the National Open.

In April last year, Cebu hosted the Philippine Open Invitational participated by teams across the country as well as top teams in Southeast Asia and world No.1 Taiwan.

The staging of this weekend’s event aimed to fortify its goal to spread awareness of this sport where Filipinos can excel.

Late last year, the TAP overcame their short preparations with a silver finish in men and women’s divisions behind Singapore in the 5th Southeast Asia Tchoukball Championship.
