100 PWDs join Parm run

AT LEAST 100 People with Disability (PWDs) are expected to join the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine or PARM M.O.V.E. Pilipinas Run 2013 on Sunday at SM City Davao car park.

Organizers said 50 wheelchair PWDs from the Association of Differently-Abled Persons (Adap) Village and Our Lady of Victory, have confirmed their participation.

Ten blind participants from Kabataan ng may Kapansanan also committed to participate in the two-kilometer (2K) category.

"We are still looking for good Samaritans to pay for the PWDs since we hope that the PWDs will not need to pay for the registration," Dr. Maria Luisa Carpio of PARM Davao said.

Some 300 runners have already registered for the event that also has 5K and 10K categories.

"We hope to raise awareness among the Dabawnyos that PWDs are also an integral part of the society and that they have the capacity to also enjoy activities like these," added Carpio.

The event aims to support the PARM Fund for the upliftment of the needy differently-abled and the PARM-PMA Charity Rehab Clinic. The event is also in line with the celebration of the 35th Nationaly Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week. It will be held simultaneously with Manila and Tacloban.

Registration are pegged at P250 (2K) and P350 (5K and 10K) and is inclusive of a singlet for the first 500 runners. Those who are interested may register at the rehabilitation centers of Davao Doctors Hospital, Southern Philippines Medical Center, Brokenshire Hospital and Davao Medical School Foundation Inc., Run Club, and at SM City 2nd Floor, fronting Ace Hardware.

Medals will be given to the top finishers.
