CITY OF FERNANDO — Some 100 indigents from all over Pampanga received the last batch of scholarship grants under the term of Liga ng mga Barangay-Pampanga chapter president and ex-officio Board Member Melchor Pingol, who is set to relinquish his post soon.
Pingol distributed Friday a total of P250,000 in educational assistance to 100 students coming from the 505 barangays of the province. Each student received P2,500 each to help in their tuition and other expenses for the first semester of the current school year.
The number of beneficiaries was recently upped by Governor Lilia Pineda from 50 per board member to 100 as requested by the lawmakers, since many indigent students desire to finish their tertiary students in colleges and universities of their choice.
Pingol who is set to relinquish his post in light of the upcoming barangay elections that will bring in a new league president, said that he is happy to have served the students’ needs and that he hopes to see them graduate.
He added that the scholarship program will still continue and asked the students to look into their studies and maintain high grades to maintain membership in the scholarship program.
u201cI am happy to have served you. I hope that you will be able to help the provincial government by finishing your studies. I am also thankful to governor Pineda for greatly helping our students through this scholarship program,” Pingol said.
