1,300 cops deployed to secure public areas

MORE than 1,300 Police Regional Office-Central Visayas personnel will be deployed to secure tourist destinations, churches and other places where the public are expected to converge during the Holy Week and summer months.

The personnel of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will tasked cops assigned in beat patrols to visit the churches on bicycles starting on Tuesday morning, March 27.

Senior Superintendent Joel Doria, CCPO director, said the program, dubbed "Bisikleta Iglesia," aims to secure big churches in Cebu City, including Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral and Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño.

He also instructed his personnel to distribute leaflets printed with tips on how to protect one's self from criminals.

The Regional Police Information Office, under Superintendent Reyman Tolentin, circulated on Facebook on Monday, March 26, the faces of ten most wanted persons in Central Visayas.


Most of the wanted personalities are facing murder charges, while others are facing rebellion, illegal possession of firearms, rape, robbery, homicide, arson and illegal drugs charges.

The airports in the cities of Lapu-Lapu, Dumaguete and Tagbiliran, seaports and terminals are also covered by the security plan of the police. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
