137 join World’s Largest Swimming Lesson in Baguio

BRAVING the morning chill, 137 swimmers took to the Baguio City Athletic Bowl Pool to join the global attempt to break the Guinness record for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.

Baguio is one of several Philippine cities designated as official sites for the attempt the reset the record, which stands at 36,000 participants.

Coach Walter Oppod of the Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) said simultaneous lessons were given at pools and water parks around the globe last June 18.

In Baguio, nine coaches and assistant coaches taught swimmers as young as four basic swim strokes, water safety, entry into water, aquatic emergencies, and dangers in shallow and deep waters.

Philippine Life Saving center head Laurence Daguio said other safety and swimming programs will be announced at a later date with their office located at the swimming pool area of the Athletic Bowl and inquiries, he said, or at cellphone number 0916-254-5532.

The Athletic Bowl pool is the training venue for some of the city’s swimmers, Daguio said. (Julie Fianza)
