140 join Mt. Apo Sky and Vertical Race

SOME 140 participants will compete in the Mt. Apo Sky and Vertical Race that will kick off on Saturday, April 29, in Darong, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

Slots to the The Magnificent Merapoh Trail in Malaysia in August are at stake in the event presented by Visit Davao Fun Sale (VDFS) in partnership with the local government unit (LGU) of Sta. Cruz.

Race director Romualdo Calbes, in a press conference Monday, April 24 at the Recreational Outdoor Exchange (R.O.X.) in Abreeza Mall, said that the upcoming eco-adventure race will be the qualifying for the upcoming 100 kilometer (km) race in Malaysia.

"We are expecting runners all over the country and others from across the globe," Calbes said, citing entries from Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand Belgium, Kazakhstan, United States of America and Russia, among others.

He added that 65 entries will see action in the 70-kilometer race and 75 participants signed up for the 35km event.

Participants of the 70km race should have already finished a 42-km race and a mountain trail race, and should provide a medical certificate.

Mandatory equipment including hydration pack, headlamp, whistle, jacket, gloves and headwear are available at R.O.X. in Abreeza Mall with 15 percent discount on selected items.

Registration fees are P3,500 (75km) and P1,500 (35km) inclusive of a finisher's medal, trophies, logistics (hauling, food, fuilds), trail fee, post-race meals, tops and shorts.
