14th rapid chess tilt slated May 27

CORDILLERA’S best wood pushers including out-of-towners clash as Pine City Chess Club holds its 14th Rapid Chess Tournament on May 27 at the Baguio Centermall.

The one-day tournament will feature an open, under-20 and under-13 category with cash prizes awaits the top 10 finishers in the tournament sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).

Organizers said participants joining the tournament should not exceed 2,300 points rating from the NCFP as of April 1.

Registration is now ongoing at the Baguio Centermall chess gallery from 3 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday to Sunday while onsite list up will slated at 9:30 a.m.

A registration fee of P250 will be collected in the open category while the 20 and below, 13 and below and senior participants will be charged P200.

The champion in the open category will receive P3,000 including medal while the second and third brings home P2,000 and P1,000 including medals.

The fourth and fifth place meanwhile receives P800 and P700 while the 6th to 10th placers get P500 each.

In the under-20 category, the champion gets P600 and a medal while the second place and third place will bring home P500 and P400 plus medals respectively while the fourth placer receives P300 and the fifth place takes P200.

The champion in the 13 and below category will receive P600 and a medal while the second and third placers get P500 and P400 each with medals; the fourth and fifth placer brings home P300 and P200, respectively.

Special prizes will also be given to the top lady and top senior chess players.
