150 entries eyed in dancesport tilt

SOME 150 entries from different areas in the country will vie for honors in the first Davao Dancesport Open Competition slated September 24 at The Annex events center of SM City Davao.

Alfa Dancesport Team Davao, Inc. (ADTDI) president Ligaya "Lilli" Arellano, during Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex, said participants will come from Manila, Quezon City, Lucena City, Bulacan, Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro City, General Santos City, Tagum City, Panabo City, Tacurong City, Koronadal City, and Kidapawan City.

"There will be three national teams competing in the amateur event," she said, adding that 10 professional licensed adjudicators will also come from Manila.

Categories entered are juvenile (seven to 10 years old), junior (11 to 16 years old), youth (17 to 21 years old), graded adults (21 to 35 years old), senior adults (60 years old and above).

Cash prizes await winners in the amateur event with the champion taking home P10,000 while the second and third placers will receive P8,000 and P5,000, respectively.

Meanwhile, the ADTDI will also hold a free dancesport workshop next summer to discover more talents in the grassroots level.

The ADTDI recently competed in World Dancesport Federation (WDSF) Cebu Open 2016 Standard and Latin and the ninth Dancesport sa Sugbu at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino wherein they took home two silver medals and one bronze.
