ABOUT 150 bowlers are expected to suit up for the 18th Sinulog Open National Tournament slated on Jan. 23 to 29 next year at the Bowlingplex, Gaisano Country Mall in Banilad, Cebu City.

The bowling competition is open to Philippine Bowling Federation, Philippine Bowling Congress and National Bowling Tour registered members.

Bowlingplex Tenpin Association of Cebu (BTA-Cebu) president Bel Suelto Jr. said that several national team players and the legendary Bong Coo will be coming over for the tournament.

Coo, 68, is a four-time World Champion and five-time Asian Games gold medalist. She is known as the most decorated Filipino athlete.

“By the way, the legendary Bong Coo will be coming and several PHL national players will be joining. More or less 150 bowlers will participate coming from the different provinces in the country,” Suelto told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

Edwin Perey of Cavite City will be defending his crown in the Masters Event, which is for the Top 48 bowlers after the six qualifying games.

The champion in the Masters Event will walk away P60,000 richer. The first runner-up will win P30,000, the second runner-up will bag P15,000, the third runner-up will get P7,500; and P5,000 for the fourth runners-up. The 5th to 7th runner-up will each receive P1,000.

A bonus reward of P50,000 will be at stake for a player who bowls a perfect game.

The competition will have the all events, team event, doubles event and the singles/qualifying.
