AN ESTIMATED 1,800 Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) children received learning and hygienic materials while 154 persons with disabilities (PWDs) received assistive devices from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Davao on Monday, May 29.

DSWD Regional Convergence Coordinator Merlinda Paragamac said these materials were requested from the Office of the City Mayor since 2016.

Paragamac said 140 day care centers in the city will benefit from the learning materials like storybooks, reading and writing materials, creative art kits, and musical instruments worth P1,500,000.

Paragamac also said that 652 day care centers in the city will be provided with hygienic materials for the ECCD children. Each set is composed of toothpastes, toothbrushes, soaps, and hand sanitizers, with a total budget of P2,400,000.

"These materials will increase participation rate of the children and also improve their health and wellness," she said.

The DSWD also provided assistive devices worth P3,000,000 containing canes, hearing aids, crutches, knee prosthesis, and hip disarticulation prosthesis to the 154 registered PWDs in the city .

Paragamac said they support the restoration of physical functionality and mobility of the PWDs for a better quality of life.

Paragamac added DSWD still has a livelihood assistance provision to be turned over at the end of the year to far-flung communities in the city after the livelihood seminars they will provide. (BSC)
