19 houses razed in Agdao fire

A TOTAL of 19 residential units were razed by a fire in Gotamco, Barangay Leon Garcia in Agdao District, Davao City, Saturday, August 5.

According to Fire Officer 2 Alfredo Alas Jr., the fire broke out around 11:30 p.m.

Based on initial investigation, the fire started after several children played with a lighter in the area.

He added that the cost of damage is estimated at P400,000.

Alas said that Agdao is one of the fire hazards they are closely

monitoring because the houses are made of combustible materials and spaces are narrow between the buildings.

Firemen declared it fire out at 12:57 p.m. No casualties were recorded.

As of 3 p.m. Saturday, the City Social Services and Development Office recorded a total of nine homeowners with 28 dependents, eight renters, four sharers, and 19 boarders who were left homeless.

The victims were given immediate assistance and are now temporarily housed at the Leon Garcia Elementary School.
