2 Abu Sayyafs die in Sulu clash

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Two Abu Sayyaf bandits were killed while two others, including a soldier, were wounded as firefight ensued anew in the hinterlands of Sulu, a military official said Wednesday, September 28.

Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) spokesman Filemon Tan Jr. said the clash broke out around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday in the village of Pugad Manaul, Old Panamao, Sulu.

Tan said the Joint Task Force Sulu troops were scouring the village of Pugad Manaul when they chanced upon the group of Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Alhabsy Misaya, resulting in the firefight.

One of the slain Abu Sayyaf bandits was identified as a certain Dadis.

Another bandit was reportedly injured in the clash that continues as of this posting Wednesday noon.

Tan did not release the name of the wounded soldier, but said he belongs to the Army’s 35th Infantry Battalion.

He said close air support is being provided to the ground troops engaged in a clash with Misaya’s group. (Sunnex)
