2 con men arrested after motorcycle chase

TWO men from Talisay City who conned an 82-year-old woman for a free blood pressure measurement were caught by police in Samboan, Cebu, on March 1.

Ginatilan police said the two men offered to measure the blood pressure of Sofia Insao inside her home in Barangay Looc, Ginatilan, on Thursday afternoon, March 1.

The suspects Glenn Ragusta, 22, and Brian Bestes, 28, were collared by police in Samboan following a pursuit operation.

It was learned that the suspects entered Insao’s house to offer the free health services.

While inside, the suspects asked Insao to take off her jewelries so they will get a clear result.

It was Insao’s helper who noticed that something was wrong when he saw the suspects taking her landlady’s personal belongings. Insao apparently did not notice the modus, as she was told to stoop down while they were taking her blood pressure.

The helper also noticed that the digital blood pressure monitor and the sphygmomanometer were defective.

The suspects then scampered away taking Insao’s gold ring, wristwatch, cellphone and necklace.

The helper took a motorbike and chased the suspects, who were also on a motorbike.

A motorcycle chase ensued and this caught the attention of the policemen who were stationed nearby.

The suspects were eventually caught in Samboan town, which is 21.9 kilometers or about an hour away from Ginatilan (via the Santander-Barili Toledo road).

Police only recovered the gold necklace as the other things, according to police, were thrown along the way during the motorcycle chase.

The suspects, who also yielded four packs of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), will face theft and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 complaints. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
