2 Davao bets in Nat'l Muay Thai

THE King's Sword Muay Thai of Davao City will field two mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters for the upcoming National Muay Thai Championships presented by the Muay Thai Association of the Philippines (Map) in partnership with Philippine Sports Commission that will kick-off Thursday, December 15, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Jay Solana and Chryster Terado will represent the city. Map Davao Chapter President Nell Jone Astudillo will coach them.

Solana, a professional MMA fighter with a record of five wins and one draw, entered in advance category of the event which attracted around 300 participants nationwide.

Astudillo, in a phone interview with SunStar Davao, said Solana is currently training at the AXC MMA where the late Ali “the young gun” Cali used to train.

“He is training a minimum of three hours a day,” Astudillo said.

Terado, however, is a black belter of Abka Karate and was the coach of Davao City wushu team that won four gold medals and four bronzes in the Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championships.

Terado, after his coaching stint with the city wushu team, stayed in Manila for his training.

“This will be Terado's first national event and I expect him to give his best,” Astudillo said.

He cited Zamboanga City and Baguio City fighters as forces to reckon with.
