2 dead in bus, motorbike collision in Ginatilan

TWO auto mechanics were killed on Sunday dawn, October 29, after the motorcycle they were riding hit a bus on the national highway in Barangay Palanas, Ginatilan, Cebu.

Police Officer 2 Elmer Perater identified the fatalities as Jonathan Benil and Joel Pepito, who succumbed to injuries in the head and other parts of their bodies. Both victims were not wearing helmets.

Before the accident happened around 3 a.m., the bus driven by Marky Dapar, 39, was traveling on the southbound lane, heading to Santander.

The motorcycle driven by Benil, 44, was on the opposite lane. Investigation showed the vehicle was traveling fast, encroached the other lane and hit the bus.

Benil and Pepito were brought to Malabuyoc District Hospital, where Benil was declared dead on arrival.

Perater said Pepito was transferred to another hospital, where he died.

Dapar was arrested, but his supervisors tried to reach a settlement with the victims' respective families. (Kevin A. Lagunda/SunStar Cebu)
