DRUG charges were filed on Friday against two former convicts arrested during a police operation that yielded an estimated P2.46 million worth of illegal drugs at Sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Punao, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
Suspects Hanjie Alquiza, 36, of Barangay Punao, and Charlemagne Mavida, 24, of Caballero Extension, Barangay 2 are facing charges for violation of Section 5 (sale of dangerous drugs), 11 (possession of dangerous drugs), and 12 (possession of drug paraphernalia) under Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Act of 2002.
Both are detained at the station.
Alquiza had been convicted for attempted homicide while Mavida, for robbery, and released from jail only last month.
On August 10, operatives of Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit led by Senior Inspector Ryan Villasario in coordination with San Carlos City Police Station conducted the operation against the two suspects around 2 a.m.
Alquiza sold methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” to a police agent for P2,500.
Operatives confiscated from him were four sachets of shabu, drug paraphernalia, and the P2,500 marked money while Mavisa yielded two sachets of shabu.
The recovered illegal drugs weighed 246 grams worth P2.46 million.
Superintendent Arturo Fullero, chief of San Carlos City Station, said both suspects were newly-identified drug personalities.
“They get their supply from a Muslim in the city,” Fullero said in a text message.
