2 inmates escape from Negros Occidental District Jail

TWO inmates of the Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) at Barangay Abuanan in Bago City, Negros Occidental escaped Sunday, April 9.

Senior Inspector Adriano Paracueles, chief of operations of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR), confirmed the incident, but withheld the names of the inmates, who have cases of carnapping and illegal possession of firearms.

Water drilling works initiated by the local government unit to augment jail water supply was ongoing when the suspects bolted. They used a pole or ladder for their escape.

They jumped from the wall behind the jail into a vacant lot around 6 a.m., Paracueles said.

Both inmates were found missing while the jail officers were making the rounds around 7 a.m.

Paracueles said a manhunt operation is ongoing as of press time for the recapture of both suspects, who reportedly went to Murcia town.

When asked if one of the escapees is related to the warden, Paracueles said he has no idea about it but he will verify it.

For the sanction of the jail warden and the duty jail officers, Paracueles said they have yet to decide on the matter as it will be based on the discretion of the BJMP National Headquarters.

They have until Monday to recapture the escapees, Paracueles added.
