TWO inmates were killed and 12 others were wounded when a brutal fight broke out between two gangs inside the Quezon City jail early Friday morning, a jail official said.
Quezon City Jail warden Ermilito Moral said the riot happened after a sleeping member of the Bahala Na gang was doused with water from a pail that was accidentally hit by a member of the Batang City Jail gang.
The pail, which was located on the upper floor of the jail, was hit by the inmate while helping bring a fellow inmate to the infirmary.
Moral said cardiac arrest caused the death of one inmate while the other fatality was stabbed to death by his fellow inmates during the riot.
He said the two gangs threw stones and other objects at each other.
Operatives of the Quezon City Police District-Special Weapons and Tactics and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Special Tactics and Response team immediately responded to pacify the commotion.
Moral said they met the leaders of the two gangs involved in the riot and settled the misunderstanding between the two parties. (SunStar Philippines)
