2 Lapu-Lapu congressional bets support Duterte

CANDIDATES for Lapu-Lapu representatives Rene Espina Jr. and Lando Patalinghug expressed Monday, April 18, their support to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's candidacy for president, saying they agree with his plan to eradicate drugs.

"I am for Digong Duterte and for Bongbong Marcos," said Espina.

Duterte is running for president under the PDP-Laban party, while Marcos is the vice presidential runningmate of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

Espina said the government needs an iron man who can implement laws.

Patalinghug said that if Duterte wins for president, illegal drug use will be minimized, if not eradicated.

Both Espina and Patalinghug admitted that illegal drug use is one of the major problems in Lapu-Lapu City.

Espina also said that killing drug lords would be his solution to stop the spread of illegal drugs, which he said is causing the slow developmental growth of the city.

He said most of the residents were not able to finish high school or pursue college, making it hard for them to land a job, while some were being used as carrier for drugs.

Patalinghug said that some solutions rely on the educational attainment of each individual in the community, highlighting the significance of building state colleges and Tesda centers in the outermost part of Lapu-Lapu City, specifically in Olango island.

Patalinghug and Espina attended Monday's forum organized by Mega Cebu and held at the RAFI Building in Cebu City. (Antoneth Geotoro and Merry Meldred Bardinas, CNU interns/Sunnex)
