2 militiamen injured in Zamboanga del Norte ambush

TWO militiamen were wounded in an ambush in a remote village of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported on Monday, May 29.

Zamboanga del Norte Police Director Edwin Buenaventura Wagan said the incident occurred around 9 a.m., Sunday, May 28, in the village of Napulan, Sirawai municipality.

Wagan identified the victims as Usman Dambua, 45, and Jimmy Bongbong, 54, both residents of the village of Lubok, Sirawai.

Wagan said the victims were onboard a motorcycle driven by Dambua when ambushed by around six unidentified gunmen while they were maneuvering an ascending portion of the road in Barangay Napulan.

He said the victims were on the way to the town proper of Sirawai at the time of the incident.

The victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Wagan said joint police and soldiers rushed to the ambush site but the gunmen were gone when they arrived. (SunStar Philippines)
