2 Negros solons push bill to construct coastal road

REPRESENTATIVES Greg Gasataya of the Lone District of Bacolod and Alfredo Benitez of the Third District filed a bill for the construction of a coastal road traversing four cities and a municipality in Negros Occidental.

House Bill 5237 seeks the construction of a coastal road along the cities of Bacolod, Silay, Talisay, and Victorias, and the municipality of E.B Magalona.

The lawmakers said in the bill that the construction of a road will harness the vast economic potential of Negros Occidental and will contribute in improving the quality of life of Negrenses.

Stretching 35.85 kilometers once completed, the coastal road will facilitate the efficient flow of people and goods in the area, catalyzing economic development and generating employment opportunities and new sources of income for the local population, the bill added.

It will also help ease traffic congestion in Bacolod North Road and mitigate the perennial flooding in said areas, it further said.

Gasataya had earlier said the Department of Public Works and

Highways (DPWH) had already sent a team to undertake the feasibility study for the project.

“Let's wait for the outcome. This is not for Bacolod alone,” he said.
