2 vehicles damaged by grenade explosion

TWO vehicles were damaged after a fragmentation grenade exploded outside a compound at Rizal-Lacson Streets in Barangay 22, Bacolod City on Thursday.

Damage was estimated at P200,000.

Senior Inspector Gideon Montaño, head of Police Station 1, said unidentified men threw a grenade outside the house of a businessman, whom he refused to name, at about 8:30 p.m.

The explosion damaged the victim’s two vehicles, including a pick-up truck and a Canter truck, parked outside his residence.

Montaño said nobody was hurt during the incident. All family members were inside the house.

He added that bomb expert Demi Montoya told him that the shrapnel recovered came from an MK2 fragmentation grenade like the ones used during the World War II.

Montaño said they have already identified four persons of interest who are possibly responsible behind the explosion, based on the testimony of the victim. However, police have yet to confirm their identities.

Before the incident, the businessman's family had been receiving threats between May and August, but they failed to report it to the police, Montaño said.

He added that they consider the incident an isolated case as the motive of the suspects were more on personal and business side.

With the occurrence of the incident, Montaño advised the public to immediately report any threats to their lives to preempt similar incidents.
