2-year-old dies after touching live wire

A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl died after she touched a live wire in Sitio Common, Barangay Taloot, Argao in southern Cebu last Sunday afternoon.

PO 3 Benjamin Gerozaga, desk officer, identified the fatality as Genelyn Amatong, who succumbed to third-degree burns.

Before the incident at 5:45 p.m., the girl’s parents were cooking dinner at the dirty kitchen outside their house.

They did not allow their two children, including the victim, to go out of the house.

Gerozaga, in a phone interview, said the children were playing when the victim accidentally touched a steel bar, where a live wire was attached to.

The parents noticed the incident after the sibling of the girl shouted for help. They rushed inside the house and turned off its power supply.

They rushed the girl to Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital in Barangay Poblacion, but the attending physician declared her dead on arrival.

Wala seguro to maayo pagkainstalar ang kuryente (Maybe the connection was not properly installed),” said Gerozaga.

The police officer said they still have to determine if the electrical connection was legal.

He said the parents may face charges if the investigators will prove the connection was illegally tapped from a neighbor.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old man hanged himself in a village in Barili.

Bono (not his real name) was found by his live-in partner hanging from the wooden beam in their house at 10 p.m. last Saturday.

The incident was reported to the police last Sunday. Before Bono was found, he had a drinking binge with his father.

The two later argued, which upset Bono, who locked himself in the room.

Barili Municipal Health Officer Mary Joy Bajarias found no foul play behind Bono’s death.
