200 forest guards to be reoriented

AROUND 200 forest guard volunteers in the city will converge on Wednesday, November 22, for the Bantay Bukid Panagtagbo at Davao City Recreational Center (DCRC) to reorient them on their role as vanguards of the environment to ensure that all concerns are addressed.

Chinkee Golle, acting executive director of Interface Development Interventions (Idis) said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw on Monday, November 20, that these forest guards are deployed in different areas in the city to monitor and ensure the safety of the environment.

“They will be reoriented on their roles and functions,” she said.

According to Golle, these forest guards were organized and trained as environment protectors by their office in partnership with the Watershed Management Council and Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF).

Today, she said that these Bantay Bukid will be wearing the uniform provided by the City Government.

Earlier last week, they have received their monthly compensation allowance amounting to P2,000 per month.

This is the project of the City Mayor’s Office and designated it to the Public Safety and Security Center (PSSCC).

In case there are concerns in their areas, these forest guards will call on the attention of the PSSCC and report any concerns.

“All the reports and concerns ng mga bantay bukid sa PSCC siya isubmit and then in terms assisting and monitoring and capacity building ng mga Bantay Bukid volunteers, that’s the time IDIS and PEF will assist,” Golle said.
