2,000 plus booters to join 5th Sinigayan 7 A-side fest

MORE than 2,000 footballers from across Negros Occidental are expected to see action in the 5th Sinigayan 7 A-side Football Festival scheduled to kick-off tomorrow, March 10, at the Sagay National High School football field.

Match commissioner Catalino Valderrama Sr. said yesterday that players from the cities of San Carlos, Escalante, Cadiz, Victorias, Talisay and Bacolod as well as localities in southern Negros will suit up in the 170 teams competing in the two-day event, which is part of Sagay City’s Annual Fiesta in honor of its Patron St. Joseph the Worker.

Events to be contested in Day 1 featuring 90 teams are the boys/girls or mixed (born 2008 and after), boys (born 2005 and after), boys (born 2002 and after), girls (born 2000 and after), 35-Up Men (born March 10, 1983 and before) and 30-Up Soccer Mom (born March 10, 1987 and before).

On Day 2, 80 teams are seeing action in the boys/girls or mixed (born 2007 and after), boys (15 born 2003 and after), boys (born 2000 and after), Women’s Open and Men’s Open.

Benson Fernandez, city sports administrator, said the staging of this football event is part of the city’s sports tourism program under Mayor Alfredo Marañon III administration.

For the past years football has tremendously grew in Sagay that resulted to the staging of various related events and has helped the local economy through generated revenues. (HGD)
