THE Cebu City Development Council has endorsed to the City Council more than P8 billion worth of programs and projects under the Annual Investment Plan (AIP) of the City Government next year.
This year’s AIP is P18 billion.
A big part of the proposed 2017 AIP, or some P1.4 billion, goes to programs and projects funded by the local development fund.
Some P909 million goes to the operations of special bodies under the Office of the Mayor.
These include programs for senior citizens with an P808-million allocation and P56 million intended for the Muslim Affairs and Cultural Programs.
Other allocations
The Department of Public Services gets P605 million, which will be used to buy office supplies and for the operating expenses for the City’s garbage collection and disposal, street cleaning, street lighting and artesian wells services, among others.
The General Services Office has been allocated P559 million, which will be mostly used for the repair, rehabilitation and reconditioning of vehicles and equipment and provision of materials and spare parts.
Programs intended for the day care; persons with disabilities; supplementary feeding; procurement of drugs, medicines and vaccines, medical supplies; and payment for hospitals and premiums under the Philippine Health Insurance under the Department of Department of Social Welfare and Services have been allocated P437 million.
The Cebu City Medical Center gets a P396-million share from the programs and projects, which will be mostly used for hospital operations.
Several infrastructure projects under the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) have been allocated P324 million.
In the City’s proposed annual budget for 2017, DEPW did not include any flood-control projects since the office has yet to fully use the P1.5-billion budget intended for flood-control projects, which were approved in 2015 yet.
The scholarship program, which Mayor Tomas Osmeña has declared a priority, has been P363 million.
Other offices with proposed allocation under the 2017 AIP include the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (P326 million), the City Health Department (P269 million) and the Peace and Order Program (P251 million).
The 2017 AIP has been referred to the council’s committee on budget and finance.
