2,500 kilos of spoiled meat in Bacolod City destroyed

ABOUT 2,500 kilograms of spoiled meat were burned and buried at the composting area in Barangay Felisa dumpsite, Bacolod City Saturday morning, April 1.

Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda, cluster head on committee of markets, Monday, April 3, said the spoiled meat worth P500,000 was turned over by a businessman, whom he refused to name.

He said the meat inspection was being conducted by the Task Force Botagoy led by Rex Juplo.

"The task force determined that the assorted meat is not fit for human consumption," Pineda added.

He explained the meat owner had a “storage problem” and decided not to sell the spoiled meat to maintain the quality of their products.

Pineda said he is hopeful that other businessmen will also turn over rotten meat for proper disposal and to secure the health of the consumer.

Moreover, Juplo said they also confiscated a total of 19.5 kilograms of illegally-slaughtered meat at Burgos Public Market on Saturday.

He said the illegal meat did not undergo inspection in the city's AVM Bernardo slaughterhouse.

The confiscated meat was also destroyed at the city's slaughterhouse grounds.
