3 charged in Sumifru mixing plant robbery

THREE men are facing charges before the City Prosecutor’s Office for alleged conspiracy to steal more than P160,000 worth of chemicals from Sumifru Mixing Plant in Barangay Kilate, Toril, Davao City on Monday.

Facing robbery charges are Billy Bangalando Cadodot, a 39-year-old employee of Sumifru, and a resident of the same place; Mark Anthony Zipagan, 35, of Barangay Camansi in Toril, and Mark Albert Chuy, a 29-year-old driver and a resident of Barangay Lizada.

The three were charged after they were arrested by the security personnel of Sumifru who endorsed the suspects to the Toril police.

Police said the security guard identified as Michael Fabro Espiritu reportedly received an inside information that the suspects were planning to rob the plant. He then informed his fellow security guards for an easier response.

Around 9:30 p.m., the security personnel were able to intercept a gray Ford XLT with plate number SHL131 with Cadodot and Zipagan onboard.

Recovered from the vehicle were two drums of Daconil chemicals worth P84,000, 15 sacks of Vanguard Powder chemical worth P82,590, one drum filled with crude oil worth P2,700, two spare tires and two padlocks of the mixing plant.

The following day, it was discovered that the vehicle used by the two suspects was rented by Chuy from the registered owner identified as Ernesto Pascual Cusilit.

Cusilit told police that Chuy rented the vehicle for P2,500 on Monday morning and he promised to return it to the owner by night time.

The owner of the vehicle also disclosed that Chuy may have changed the plate number for his illegal activities as the original plate number was supposedly LGC336.

Chuy, meanwhile, turned himself over to the Toril police on Wednesday and he was accompanied by his lawyer Francisco Villano Jr.

The three are currently detained at the Toril police station while the case is being handled by Prosecutor Carlos Castaños Jr. (RPSA)
