3 companies eye FBIA development project

THREE bidders had already expressed interest for the Francisco Bangoy International Airport (FBIA) operations, maintenance, and development project, a FBIA official said.

During the press conference on Saturday, March 18 held at the airport, Hector Nabua, assistant airport manager said the P40.57 billion indicative cost of the project include the passenger and terminal building expansion, car parking and administration building expansion, and establishment of apron area and the full parallel taxiway.

The passenger terminal building is targeted to be expanded from 65,000 square meters (sqm) to 125,000 sqm while the cargo terminal building is to be expanded from 13,000 sqm to 27,000 sqm.

For the first phase of the project, Nabua said they prioritize the construction of the full parallel taxiway among the other major construction.

“This will help double the capacity of the land take off because right now the landing and take-off areas are not well distributed,” said Nabua.

Last Monday, March 13 a pre-qualification to bid conference was conducted in connection with the FBIA projects.

Nabua said this is an implication that the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project is already underway and is pretty sure it will be pushed through.

He said the PPP project is to accommodate more foreign and local air traffic.

Currently, FBIA has an average of 36 flights daily or around 9,700 passengers both for domestic and international flights. With the developments to take place in the airport under the PPP project, Nabua hopes it will help bring in more flights to the airport.

“Davao Airport is very crucial as a gateway for Mindanao especially we need to supply agricultural products to China. Mindanao potential is very high that we need to provide good infrastructure programs and I think this is what’s in the mind of the Chinese to make sure that we can go there and bring the goods,” said Councilor Danny Dayanghirang.

Nabua said, meanwhile, that the airport’s centralized air conditioning unit has already an awarded bidder for the installation and repair of the air condition units.
