3 foreigners nabbed for ATM skimming

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Three foreign nationals were arrested by authorities on Monday evening, July 24, for skimming an automated teller machine of a local bank here.

The three suspects were identified as Radu Minodor Sandor, a 42-year-old Nicaraguan national, Marcu Bogdan, 26, a Romanian national, and Petro Ioan Uveges, 44, holder of a Hungarian passport with the name Balasz Varga.

Police Superintendent Roland Agohob said the suspects were arrested after an employee of the Bank of the Philippine Islands Family Savings Bank, barangay San Agustin branch, noticed the suspicious movements of the foreigners.

The three were seen roaming around the bank around 10:35 p.m. prompting the bank employee to call police.

Agohob said police were able to confiscate from the suspects one skimming device, assorted ATM cloning cards, and cash amounting to P339,362.

He added the suspects have been installing skimming devices in several ATMs in the city. They have yet to identify though the total amount of money the suspects have stolen.

Police issued another reminder for the public to be more vigilant in withdrawing money from ATMs, especially during night time.

"If anything suspicious happens, report it immediately to the bank security guard or the nearest city police office," Agohob said.
