3 hurt by firecrackers, accidental firing

TWO minors and an adult were injured in separate incidents of firecracker explosions and accidental firing in Negros Occidental in the past three days.

In La Carlota City, a 13-year-old boy was injured after a Piccolo exploded in his hand at home in Barangay II at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The victim sustained minor injuries in his left hand and was brought to a hospital.

Piccolo, an illegal firecracker, has been blamed for most injuries this holiday season.

In Talisay City, a nine-year-old boy was wounded after a firecracker he lighted exploded, at Barangay Zone 10 at 8:40 a.m. on December 25. The victim sustained injuries in his leg and minor burns in his left hand.

He was brought to a hospital.

In La Carlota City, a man was injured after he was hit by a firearm in front of a mini store at Barangay Haguimit at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as Aquino Bunganseso, 42.

Investigation showed that Bunganseso and suspect Rico Maluwa, 32, of Barangay 7, Kabankalan City, together with three others, were having a conversation when Maluwa’s .22 caliber revolver inside his pocket went off, hitting the victim’s right index finger and chest.

Maluwa was placed under police custody while Bunganseso was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.
