3 killed, 5 hurt in Argao road mishap

A MAN, his wife and grandson were killed, while five others were hurt, when four vehicles collided at Sitio Himongbongan, Barangay Taloot in Argao, Southern Cebu at 10:50 a.m., Sunday, April 15.

Jose Aquillo Sellote, 62; his wife, Virgilia, 61 and his grandson Vince Brylle Villaces, 4, didn't survive their injuries when they were brought to the Dr. Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital in Argao.

Sellote and his companions were onboard a multivan heading towards Cebu City after spending vacation in Oslob.

Upon passing by Barangay Taloot, they encountered a trailer truck driven by Leonel Judith, who works for a trucking service firm in Mandaue City.

Police Officer 1 Jayson Lobendina of the Argao Police Station said Judith was traveling towards Barangay Binlod in the same town to deliver poultry feeds when Sellote's car suddenly made a left turn towards his lane.

Sellote did not realize that upon making the turn, his vehicle struck the left side of Judith's truck.

The collision sent Sellote's vehicle bouncing back to the southbound lane, hitting a gray car driven by Julius Caesar Olivar, 29, who was tailing them.

After he got hit from Sellote's vehicle, Judith suddenly lost control of the truck and hit an SUV driven by Sulpicio Obod before crashing along a mangrove plantation on the side of the road.

After witnessing the crash, some residents in the area immediately contacted emergency responders to provide medical assistance to those who were hurt.

While the couple and Villaces didn't survive the crash, their other four grandchildren survived but remained under medical observation due to injuries they incurred.

Lobendina said that Olivar and Obod also survived the accident.

While Judith is currently detained at the Argao Police Station pending the filing of charges against him. (JKV)
